Red Rock Canyon State Park, near Cantil, California Red Rock Canyon State Park features desert cliffs, buttes, and spectacular rock formations. Diagonal striation marks show layers of rock uplifted over time by earthquakes in the Garlock fault zone.  Red rock canyon was used as a location for the motion picture Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Red Rock Canyon near Cantil should not be confused with the many other Red Rock Canyons, such as those near Las Vegas, Topanga, Foothill Ranch, Hinton Oklahoma, or Coloado Springs.
