The Palmer House hotel in downtown Chicago was created by Potter Palmer for his wife Bertha Honoré Palmer. The first Palmer House hotel was built in 1871. However, only 13 days after its grand opening, the first Palmer House fell victim to the Great Chicago Fire. A rebuilding project followed. On November 8, 1873, the second Palmer House welcomed its first guests. The thrid and current Palmer House was created in 1925, designed by architects Holabird and Roche. The Palmer House is the nation's longest continually operating hotel. The Palmer House is a classic Beaux-Arts style hotel. A major reconovation occurred between 2007 and 2009. The current condition is excellent.

The ceiling fresco in the main lobby was created by French painter Louis Pierre Rigal in 1926.

When in downtown Chicago, stay at the historic Palmer House. As added incentive, the cost of staying at the Palmer House is merely outrageous, compared to the completely outrageous costs of other downtown Chicago hotels.

The Palmer House is now part of the Hilton chain.
