Slab City consists of a series of abandoned dirt roads and concrete slabs which once constituted the Dunlap Marine Corps Barracks and testing range.  The slabs have long since been abandoned by the military.  During the winter months the slabs are occupied by the motor homes and trailers of snowbirds.  Slab City has no electricity, no running water, no sewage system, no government and no rent.  Slab City is located adjacent to the Salton Sea in the low desert.  Summer temperatures often reach 120 degrees.   Squatters paradise.
